What
Chris Thinks of Straighte Edge
I
asked a few people out there on what they thought of the website;
a guy called Chris, had the following to say after looking at
this site...
Hmm interesting site
this straightedge thing, looks quite nice, only a few missing
pages (like the merchandising page). I think I kind of understand
the philosophy, it would appear to be no alcohol no drugs no (premiscuous)
sex, no smoking. And rather ominously put an X on your hand (optional).
I can see good intention
in this, up to a point. Drugs and Alcohol do destroy lives, as
can premiscuous sex, but with the exception of Drugs can also
make life a more enjoyable and fulfilling experience, if practiced
in a responsible manner.
Also the correct
definition of premiscuous sex is, "indiscriminate sex" and not
"having sex with someone you don't truly love" as stated on your
website. Although it is a matter of personal opinion as to whether
such forms of behaviour are enjoyable and acceptable in our society.
Something which thankfully you appear to promote.
It is nice to see
that there has been some thought put into this philosophy even
if some of it appears to be borrowed (eg "****med off from XFiner
Truth Houston HardcoreX"). And it is most refreshing to see that
you encourage people to make their own choices about being "straightedge"
rather than trying overly hard to evangelise.
My personal opinion
is that people (especialy young people) should be educated to
make informed decisions about how they conduct their lives. You
offer some explanation on your website as to why things are wrong,
but the arguments are staid and adopt a worst case scenario. Such
an approach can drive people to make ill informed decisions.
Your website forms
an interesting resource, however I do not agree with it's doctrine.
This of course is my personal opinion and I encourage others to
form their own.
